Hi,

I am writing to enquire about your VeryPDF products and their suitability for our needs.

We are an online school delivering education worldwide, and we use some PDF textbooks. Unfortunately, we have been facing copyright issues, as some of our students have shared or sold our PDF textbooks online. We are looking for a reliable solution to protect our files.

Here are some questions:

– PDF Expiry Settings

If we convert our files using VeryPDF and set up an expiry limit (e.g., 10 views), will this setting apply globally or individually?

For example, if I share the file with 10 students, will it expire after a combined total of 10 views by all students? Or will it expire individually for each student (e.g., Student A uses up their 10 views, but Student B can still access the file until their 10 views are used)?

This is important for us as we prefer not to reconvert files every time a new student enrolls. Instead, we’d like to share a single protected file on our LMS with consistent settings that apply individually to each student.

– Annotations and Expiry Restrictions

Our students often want to add bookmarks or highlights to their textbooks while studying. Would VeryPDF allow them to save these annotations? If so, will the expiry restrictions still apply to the annotated version?

– Pop-Up Message During Viewing

While testing your online file generation feature, we noticed a message saying, “This content is protected, click to continue viewing,” appearing randomly. Will this issue persist if we purchase your product subscriptions?

– VeryPDF Reader Requirement

Would students need to download the VeryPDF Reader application to access the protected files on their devices?

– Impact of Subscription Cancellation

If we cancel our monthly subscription, what will happen to the PDF files that were already generated and shared? Will the protection and restrictions on those files remain intact, or will they stop functioning?

I look forward to your response.

Kind regards,
Customer

imageDear Customer,

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in VeryPDF DRM Protector. We understand your concerns regarding copyright protection for your PDF textbooks, and we are happy to provide detailed information about our solution’s features and capabilities.

PDF Expiry Settings

By default, the expiry limit applies globally. This means that if you set a file to expire after 10 views, the total combined views across all students will count toward this limit. Once the total views reach 10, the file will no longer be accessible.

However, if you prefer each student to have an individual expiry limit (e.g., Student A has 10 views, Student B also has 10 views), you would need to generate a unique protected link for each student. We offer a batch processing tool that allows you to upload a single PDF file and generate multiple unique links at once, making it easy to distribute individualized access.

Additionally, we can provide API integration for your Learning Management System (LMS), enabling automatic generation of secure links when new students enroll. This ensures that each student has a personal access limit without requiring manual file reconversion.

Annotations and Expiry Restrictions

Currently, our primary focus is on content protection, and our DRM solution does not support annotations such as bookmarks or highlights. However, we are considering adding this feature in future updates.

If annotation functionality is essential for your use case, we can offer a custom development solution to integrate this feature into a dedicated version of our DRM software. This would require additional development time and costs, and we’d be happy to discuss your specific requirements.

Pop-Up Message During Viewing

The message “This content is protected, click to continue viewing” appears when the system detects potential screen capture activities or if the user moves the mouse outside the viewing area. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized screen captures.

Students can avoid this message by ensuring they keep the mouse within the viewing window and do not attempt to take screenshots. This feature enhances content security by preventing piracy.

VeryPDF Reader Requirement

No, students do not need to download the VeryPDF Reader application. All protected files can be accessed via a web browser, ensuring a seamless experience across different operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Simply share the secure PDF link, and students can view the file online without needing additional software.

Impact of Subscription Cancellation

If you cancel your VeryPDF DRM Protector subscription, all previously protected PDF files will stop working. Since these files are hosted on our cloud servers, access is controlled through our service, and an active subscription is required for students to continue using them.

For long-term access without relying on our cloud service, we offer a self-hosted DRM solution that allows you to run the VeryPDF DRM Protector on your own servers. This gives you full control over your protected files and ensures they remain accessible regardless of our service status.

Best regards,
VeryPDF
